Many of the topics covered in the old Double Award Science are still taught in science GCSEs.

If you click on the exact button you can see the Exact analysis pages for Double Award Science and the problems that examiners highlighted.

From examiner's comment to classroom activity

Examiner's reports from examination boards are carefully written and contain a great deal of insight from experienced examiners on the difficulties students encounter in answering questions. Unfortunately, the expert knowledge contained in the examiners' reports can be difficult to distil and turn into practical classroom activities. Accessing reports is made easier by software such as Testbase (QCA) and Exampro (AQA).

But, even then, searching through 5 years' worth of reports to find exactly where students have gone wrong is very time-consuming for a teacher. The idea of an ExaCt analysis is that a summary of the examiners' reports can be produced by asking experienced examiners to categorise salient problems mentioned in the reports using some simple categories. Exampro and AQA have produced an ExaCt analysis for Double Award Science.
