From examiner's comment to classroom activity
Examiner's reports from examination boards are carefully written
and contain a great deal of insight from experienced examiners
on the difficulties students encounter in answering questions.
Unfortunately, the expert knowledge contained in the examiners'
reports can be difficult to distil and turn into practical
classroom activities. Accessing reports is made easier by
software such as Testbase (QCA) and Exampro (AQA).
But, even then, searching through 5 years' worth of reports to
find exactly where students have gone wrong is very
time-consuming for a teacher. The idea of an ExaCt analysis is
that a summary of the examiners' reports can be produced by
asking experienced examiners to categorise salient problems
mentioned in the reports using some simple categories. Exampro and AQA have produced an ExaCt analysis for Double Award
Science.
If you have a licence to a current issue of any GCSE Exampro
Science (Biology, Physics, Double Award Science), enter it here
and you will be taken to the ExaCt analysis where you will be
able to investigate what problems students encounter in the
topics that you teach.
