What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) provides news feeds allowing you
to see when websites have added new content. You don't need to
visit the website, the news comes straight to you as soon as it
is published.
|
How do I start using RSS feeds?
You will need a piece of software called a news reader or
aggregator. There are plenty available for free to download if
you search the Web, or your browser may be configurable to
include RSS. If you are downloading one, please ensure it is
suitable to your operating system. The reader checks your chosen
websites for any updates, and provides summaries and links to
more information.
Once you have your reader, you need to supply it with specific
feed. For example, on the home page of this site there will be
an orange RSS icon sat beneath the main banner.
If you click on the RSS button you can subscribe to this RSS
feed in a number of ways, including the following:
- Drag the orange RSS button into your News Reader
- Drag the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader
- Cut and paste the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader
Sites that offer feeds will use either an orange button saying or
- though some may just have text links.
Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari,
automatically check for feeds for you when you visit a website,
and display an icon when they find one. This can make
subscribing to feeds much easier. For more details on these,
please check their websites.
Please be aware that the RSS feed from this site will include
feeds from all Doublestruck sites, including Testbase (QCA),
Exampro (AQA), ExamWizard (Edexcel) and ExamQuest (OCR). To
receive information for all these products, you only need to
sign up from one of the sites. If you
use one of our products, but are not familiar with the others,
you may wish to find out more by using the links in the RSS
feed. |
